I. InTroDucTIon
Throughout history, men have primarily fought wars and have been
honored as martyrs or veterans for their service. However, women have
often been the most vulnerable and innocent victims of war. They frequently
die alongside their children or are subjected to rape and disability used as a
weapon of war. Unfortunately, they have not received the same recognition
as male soldiers for their sacrices and the trauma they endure during times
of conict. During times of war, women’s roles are often disregarded, while
mass rape is recognized as a war crime. This abhorrent act is committed
to disintegrating families, terrifying societies, altering the ethnic identity
of subsequent generations, undermining social and moral values, and
degrading human dignity. The World Human Rights Organization, the
World Amnesty Organization, and women’s organizations have all clearly

Sociologist and political scientist. After Galatasaray High School, she graduated from
Boğaziçi University, Department of Sociology. She completed her master’s degree on
Middle East Politics at Paris Institute of Political Sciences (SciencesPo Paris), and her
doctorate on “Feminist Alternative Media and Women’s Organizations” at Istanbul
University. She has participated in various political activities and carried out many
important eld studies for many years. Her elds of study are gender, women, political
representation, international migration, urban rights and social movements in the Middle
East.
